Highly technical trading content and lack of visual references
It was important that the translations were not only precise and comprehensible but also resonated with the local traders or experienced users of trading platforms. The text for translation consisted of mostly trading language. When this translation project was carried out, the Trade360 app had not been launched yet. As a result, the project team did not have access to the app. Such lack of visual references posed an enormous obstacle for translation.
Large amount of work across different content types
The project started with one or two translators and one reviewer per language pair. When the majority of the application content was translated, we were tasked with localizing other website content and marketing text, which spanned over a period of more than one year. For on-going projects, consistency, specifically translation consistency, is always both our challenge and objective.
Demand for linguists experienced in translating both financial topics and UI content strings
The combination of financial, trading, and UI content posed unique challenges in recruiting qualified translators for the project. Most linguists, regardless of work experience, often feel more comfortable translating with either financial content or UI strings only. Finding experts in both domains proved to be difficult.
Recruitment of experienced linguists
Our Recruitment & Staffing team screened the pool of linguist profiles for those with previous experience in translating financial and trading texts as well as website or app content. Thorough translation tests were carried out to ensure that the project was staffed with only linguists who would perform well in translating UI strings of financial and trading content.
Language Lead and Glossary development
We promoted the linguists who had the most experience localizing trading content to become Language Leads. They acted as the reviewers and were responsible for developing as well as maintaining the Glossary of their language pairs. These Language Leads also evaluated translation tests, trained new linguists joining the project, and regularly provided feedback for the entire translation team to uphold the overall quality.
Expert review
Understanding the technicality of certain text for translation, we recruited experts who either were experienced traders (i.e. actual users of trading platforms) or worked in the financial sector to help make the translations resonate with traders in their mother tongues. With one expert per language pair, each expert would work with their assigned Language Lead to help review the Glossary, wordings of certain trading terms or phrases, and translations of marketing text, especially slogan and tagline translation.
Scope of work
Approximately 100,000 words per language pair
