Our Certified + Notarized Translation Services
Certified translation
Along with the translation, we’ll issue a free signed statement declaring the translation to be an accurate representation of your original document. Upon request, we can also provide a certified translation by a certified translator who is an active member of a professional translator association from any country of your choice for an additional fee. Certified translation is available for marriage, death or birth certificates; adoption agreements; supporting documents for immigration; court transcripts; service agreements; business contracts, etc.
Notarized translation
We’ll provide your translation and then obtain a notarization signature and official seal from a notary public in the local authorities on your behalf (for additional fee on top of translation cost). Notarization confirms that the translated work is complete and accurate. Notarized translations are often required for documents for immigration such as passports, ID cards; educational documents such as school transcripts and diplomas, and other papers for legalization purposes both within Vietnam and abroad.
Consular authentication
As a professional translation agency, Thao&Co. knows how to navigate this complex process. We’ll first translate the document. Then we’ll seek consular authentication on your behalf from the local authorities. This service is for Vietnamese individuals and enterprises with documents they plan to use in foreign countries or expatriates and foreign companies with documents they plan to use in Vietnam.
FAQs
What is notarized translation?
Answer:
At its simplest, a notarized translation is performed by a Notary Public as an additional authentication layer to the certified translation. The main purpose of notarization is to legalize translations of documents within a country.

Furthermore, a translation has to be notarized before submitting it for consular authentication (applied to non-Hague Apostille countries such as Canada, Vietnam, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, etc.) to be able to use it overseas.

What is certified translation?
Answer:
A certified translation is a translation accompanied by a signed certification statement of the translator or the translation agency to verify the translation accurately represents the original. This type of translation is commonly used for personal or business documents such as financial statements, academic degrees, contracts, business licenses, certificates, etc.

What is certified contract translation?
Answer:
Certified contract translation is the process of rendering the content of a contract from one language to another. The purpose of certified contract translation is to guarantee the accuracy of the contract in a comprehensive and effective manner.

What are the difficulties in certified translation of legal documents?
Answer:
Unlike some other types of translation, legal document translation faces many challenges. Any mistakes, no matter how small, can cause a lot of legal problems for the parties involved and rarely bring good results.

Below are the challenges of certified translation of legal documents:

  • Extensive knowledge of legal documents
  • Advanced legal writing skills
  • Subjectivity in legal translation
  • Information privacy

How to get Consular Authentication Services in Vietnam?
Answer:
According to International laws, Consular Authentication is a certification for foreign legal documents to be recognized with full legal effect in a country. If both the issuing country and destination country are members of the Hague Apostille Convention, you can skip the step of acquiring consular authentication.

Since Vietnam is not a party to this Convention, Consular Authentication is necessary for foreign documents to be used in Vietnam and Vietnamese documents to be used in another country.

Do passports need to be translated and certified?
Answer:
Whether your passport needs to be translated and certified depends on the specific requirements of your host country or the organization processing your application.

In most cases, passports are issued in two languages: English and the language of the issuing country. Therefore, for standard procedures, foreigners do not need to translate and certify their passports.

However, for important procedures, such as when applying for a work permit for foreigners, getting married, or applying for a business license for a branch of a foreign company in non-English speaking countries, it is important that the passport be translated and certified.

How to get certified translation for adoption documents?

Consider the following points when selecting a translation agency to translate your adoption documents:

  • Choose a translation agency specializing in translating legal documents
  • Prioritize information privacy

However, there are many different factors that affect the cost of a translation, especially if it requires certification and/or notarization.

What is the certified translation rate for academic transcripts?
Answer:
The rate of a certified transcript translation includes the cost for translating and notarizing. On the other hand, the notarization fee is usually affected by the number of pages of the translation and the government agency which supplies the notary seal.
